The Nagae family has long been named Soukichi. In 1801, the third generation Soukichi established new Setoyaki (caledon ceramics) , and researched methods of producing more exquisite clay with Kato Tamikichi and Kato Tozaemon, who was known as “Merciful Master ”. He was also appointed by Owari Domain to guard the Chikura stone. In 1872, methods of abolishing the feudal Han and introducing modern prefectures was applied throughout Japan. The fifth generation Soukichi established his own kiln named Su Shan Kiln. Later generations inherited the name of Nagae Soukichi and Su Shan Kiln. The current kiln is managed by the ninth generation of the family.

 

長江家累世皆名為惣吉。西元 1801 年,第三代惣吉創立瀨戶新製燒(青花瓷器),與譽為 慈祖的加藤民吉、加藤唐左衛門研究製作出更精緻的瓷土,並被尾張藩任命守護千倉石的任 務。明治五年(1872 年)正當日本改革實施廢藩置縣,第五代惣吉自創的窯口,稱為素山窯。 代代沿襲長江惣吉之名傳承素山窯,現今已至第九代。
