Bowls are a metaphor for openness. I make Chawan that reflect my interest in the philosophy of wabi and sabi.

I am comfortable with ambiguity and contradiction. I try to reflect a beauty in the rustic, simple or complex chawan surface. I prefer to used mixed claybodys of dark stone ware and porcelain. It is called recycled clay and it gives sabi a chance to emerge. It is also economical to recycle

clay.

I love the FIRE aspect that the kiln allows , and how that gives variation on the surfaces of my pots. My chawan have a tea well, a front or face that a tea master, or drinker can use. I hope they are comfortable to whip matcha and hold in your hands and appreciate,or make “bowl tea” using my chawan to serve from. I ask you to consider PEACE when drinking tea.
